I enjoyed getting to know the late Command Seargeant Major Harris L. Parker through the indelible impression he had on this author, his niece. Her stories about Uncle Horace and what she learned from him are warm, full of wisdom and applicability for all kinds of leaders.
The Hardcore brand of leadership is a relevant read for anyone who aspires to lead…whether in their family, in community and regardless of their role at work.
Hardcore leadership is not conferred by title or position. It’s foundation is trust and the relationship you earn from others by aspiring to live your values…in spite of mistakes. It’s the real deal.
In this well-written book, Deborah Parker draws eleven, leadership lessons from her late Uncle, Command Sergeant Major Harris “Hardcore” Parker, and relates to practical living – professional and personal. As a former military officer herself, Ms. Parker uses this perspective to paint a clear picture of how to “do leadership.” With its focus on timeless leadership principles, this book is sure to be of interest to military and non-military readers alike.
Many leadership books are long on theory and short on application – not so with Parker’s book. I found the read enjoyable, uplifting, and challenging. I highly recommend “Hardcore Leadership.”
